review: skunk2 short shifter
well today i installed my skunk2 short shifter. after breaking 1 shifter per yr my gf went ahead and bought me the skunk2 shifter/**** from JDMHONDAPARTS.com. i received in a timely manor. it was ordered on monday got to washington on friday. upon opening the box the shifter seemed to b of good quality. of course my other ones did too. i grabbed the shift **** and damn that thing is heavy as hell.
today i installed it. pretty much straight forward but the hardware that comes with the shifter is way beyond the quality of the others ive had. it came with ball bearings (which my others did too) but it had "spacers" that slid into the bearings. by far the best hardware ive seen yet. once installed even with the heavy shift **** the thing shifts so easy. i hear the weight of the **** is to balance the shaft that goes to the tranny. whether this is true or not is debatable but so far what ive seen is top notch from this thing. now if it holds up over the next yr or so then ill b truely impressed.

Heavy shift ***** are a good thing.
You can shift way easier with them due to the increased weight at the top of the shifter.
Go pick up a STOCK Miata shift **** sometime, you'll be surprised.

I didn't notice much until after I had the Skunk2 shifter **** installed for like 6 months, then took it out. That's when I noticed how much it had really helped.
It's not one of those short shifters that just looks short, and sits under the boot and looks gay...It actually provides positive shifting and reduces throw. I was very satisfied with mine, and if I already didn't have one would definately buy it again.

It doesn't look that different in the car...Height is not affected that much...Just slightly. Some shift levers really sit low, this is not one of them.

I've personally had the Nuespeed, Skunk2, and a gerneric brand. Between the Neuspeed and the geberic, they were the same height wise...Very low, and reduced throw but sloppy gear engagement. The Skunk2 was the tallest of the bunch and provided the best gear engagement and most solid feel.

Re: (97Civicoupe)
my first one was a vibrant cheap short shifter. it sat about the same as the stock one but reduced throw significantly. the last 2 were SOLO short shifters. they were about the same but as in the above post all 3 broke.
install is about 30min because of my 2 3/4" exhaust having to b removed. its simple and painless.

Yes, it sits extremely short. I personally own a DC and had one in my Integra before I got my hatch, then put one in it. I absolutly love the DC Short Shifter. I also have the Gunmetal DC **** and its feels great. Its hard driving anything but the DC. Although, Ive heard they can be quite fragile, Ive beaten on my majorly and never cracked one. So, dont buy into the hype that they crack. Skunk 2 shifter is good IMO, but DC is superior.

nice, my buddy rodrez has that in his car. It is a well constructed product. My co-worker got some cheap-off brand short shifter, and the thing busted on him not even a month later. broke in half, that sucks

I cant speak for the shifter but the **** is amazing. I got it yesterday and all i can say is wow. Compared to my momo it has such a different feal.
The weight of it is what makes it great. It just flows into gears and you dont have to push at all.
