Review of my $50 eBay CAI, very nice quality..... (pics and link)
Well, I was going to get the AEM but figured I would try a cheap one first and if I didn't like it I could sell it or something but it is really nice. Cost me about $55 shipped, 2 piece CAI, filter was really nice. Bought on a Tuesday and recieved on Friday. Seller: Racesonic and he has a feedback of over 6000.
Link to the one I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1
More pics of it installed and everything here: http://www.leftcoastimports.com/cai-intake.htm

Performance? Just louder in most cases. Not unless you have a motor that is semi-built.

What the quality of the filter like?
I heard that the filters that come with the EBAY CAI are sometimes really crap and there is a possibility that the filter breaks apart and gets sucked into the engine causing damage.

The only two complaints I have about that intake is:
1). Lack of CARB approval. Not a biggie to all, but it does matter to those of us stuck in cali
2). The mounting bracket looks very cheap
Other then that, its a very nice system.

Dude, first you broke a ebay shifter, now you got an ebay intake? your going to melt the welds of your intake next
oh well if it works it works. you can always change to a better filter though.

I'm a newb but i thought the intake was the best first step towards a semi-built motor, and if not then how can AEM proclaim an at least substantial increase in HP, when they mention nothing about the engine having to be previously modded.

A cold air intake doesn't have much to do with a "built motor". A built motor usually consisits of the internals of an engine. an intake, header, and exhaust just help the engine breath better therefore creating more hp.

When people bitch about quality, etc...I think back to what we used to have to work with. Short ram Akimoto intakes with shitty support brackets. You guys have an abundance of technology and many different intakes to choose from...The one pictured above looks 10x's better than what alot of us use to use back in the day...So it gets a from me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares about mounting brackets! i hate seeing el cheapo intakes with no support. My friend ran around with his shorty intake and no mounting bracket, and the thing fell off the TB whenever he went over bumps.
But that eBay CAI looks good compared to some others i've seen. not bad for $55. Does the pipe rub against the resonator hole? if so, might clamp on another rubber connector to protect the pipe. just a tip in case it does rub.

That looks real nice. One of these days, someone needs to get an Ebay intake, and an AEM V2 whatever and go to a dyno and see the difference in power.

All of the ebay CAI's i have seen are 2.5" including mine. BTW, save yourself some time, and buy new hose clamps at napa or checker, trust me on this one, it is worth the $6.

Most of the ones I have seen on Ebay are 3" mandrel bent piping.

y'know whats funny? I ordered just the second pipe of that setup off of ebay, for like 9.99, and the guys sent me a whole cai, so I through the whole thing on not expecting much, but was actually pretty impressed, my ex sounds a lot meaner now, and gained some pep compared to my old aem short ram. It suck that my k&n filter wount fit on there right though, the filter it came with is pretty shoddy.
