with respect to cai, and short air intake ?
Ok, so I'm looking to get first mod, for my del sol.
I have searched and read quite a bit. I live in NYC(rains&snows pretty often).
If I purchased a cai like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...WA:IT Could I use it as a short air intake?
Also I'm a little strapped for cash right now. If i just go with short air intake http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...WA:IT Should I wait for auction to end so I may save the dollar or should I buy it now ? (pun intended) I will probably wait till auction ends , regardless of what yall say.
Basically, since I'm a paranoid freak, and would rather err on the side of caution, should I go with the short air intake?
Is it common place for peeps that live in wetter areas to switch between short air, and cai , when the need be ?
Thanks,
Joe

Damn you're so broke you need to save one dollar? hahaha
Anyway yeah I think if you get the cold air you can always just remove the "cold air" pipe and put the filter onto the shorter pipe (as long as the filter fits, it should)
Me personally, I'm basically in NYC and some areas I work at flood A LOT! So I just have a fake J's racing intake (short ram)

I might be able to get some other upgrades with the extra dollar e.g. some shiny replacement screws......

My advise would be to skip the cai and go with a short ram. I don't believe the lower position is worth enough gain to justify the risk. I've seen too many unsuspecting victims that were aware of the risk, but (for various reasons) still ended up with a perforated block. Plus short rams are easier to remove when your working in the area. (and they're cheaper!!!)

Now that is cheap isn't it ? Obviously they get you with the shipping, yet i'm sure it would be hard to beat $22 for it .

Completely different intake and results when compared to a CAI.

Re: with respect to cai, and short air intake ? (rodrez.)
i say skip the intake... by itself, it won't do anything for you. it will most likely hurt your gas milage also (unless you clean your filter religiously).
save up for some real mods. i/h/e is a big waste of money in my opinion

Don't listen to this guy, he obviously has no clue. i/h/e is the first mods you do to your car if yo plan on staying non turbo, i/h/e is required to get the most power out of bigger mods like cams, head work etc. etc. You have to start somewhere and an intake isyour first start
