Replacing Ignition Key Cylinder/Tumbler, Need Help
Hello,
My girlfriend recently had her car stolen but luckily it was recovered within 8 hours (I was surprised to seeing as it's a 99 civic).
However when we met up with the police to get the car we found something stuck in the ignition key slot and we cannot turn the car into the "off" position.
She has been getting around for the past few days and only needed one or two jumps to get her car back on (accessory mode killing the battery overnight?). She bought a new ignition key tumbler/cylinder assembly from a Honda junkyard with a matching key for it. Is the swap a simple plug and play? I am pretty technically inclined and would think this is an easy job but I dont want to take apart my girlfriends dash and not be able to pix it, any help would be great

Just replaced my cylinder lock and key. It was very simple, I had it done in like 10 minutes. Good luck

Does this work on Integra's? If so, anyone got pictures or details how to do it? I've been looking at my integra one and have no clue if it even comes out. I think it might be one whole unit.

I just figured mine out, and its probably not the tumbler. It's probably the mechanism.
But there is a little button you press in. The key needs to be in the ON position and the security screw needs to come out.

At least on a 92-95, you have to have it on accessory, push a small pin in on the side and after you pull it out part way, there is a metal clip you have to pry up to release the tumbler the rest of the way. I had the key to do this, you may have to use a screw or bolt
You can repin the new tumbler to use the old key.
I had trouble getting it apart, so I looked up information about it and found a diagram. it was very handy.

You don't pry the pin out, you push it in with a small screwdriver/punch/etc. After you pull the cylinder out part way, there's a arm with a hood and that gets pried up.
Looking at the column from the side, at 11 o'clock there's the pin that is pushed in. It will only push in if you're in accessory. Then pull the cylinder out, again, only if you're in accessory. Next, at about 3 o'clock, there's a metal arm you just pry up with a screwdriver. It's not hard. And it should be out now.

figure out how to take the old pins out of the new tumbler and put your pins from the old tumbler in. Or play with different combinations until it will turn when it's in the ignition. I have an extra one if you need more pins.

Re: Replacing Ignition Key Cylinder/Tumbler, Need Help
I just had to drill out my old ignition cylinder. I got my new one, but I can't seem to get it to pop in place. When I get it almost in, I cannot turn my key out of the accessory position. And it doesn't seem like the little pin is popping in place.
I just noticed the difference in key cylinder designs, do you think that could be it? (93 VX)
