replacing the exhaust help please
ok well i just joined the forum yesterday beacause i finally got my first car.
its a white 94 civic ex.
its all stock now.
but the exhaust makes a rattling noise so when my father picked it up from the lady yesterday he took it to the same mechanic thats always worked on our other 2 hondas. the mechanic said that when the exhaust was replaced, that whoever did it did a horible job. the pipes from the catalitic converter back were replaced with straight pipes and a generic mufler with no resonator was rigged up to fit.
our mechanic said he could get the stock pipes in and a new mufler for $480.
so my question is are there any cat back exhaust kits that are good but not stupid loud out there for around the same price or less?
all ive found so far are no name brands that i dont particularly trust.
i havent looked under the car yet to see the exhuast but ill get under there today and get a picture or 2 for you guys to see.
thanks

Ya man just hop on ebay and get a knock off of the apexi n1 exhauast it is pretty quiet untill your get on the gas then it gets loud but sounds good...don't get a autozone special they are for ricers I repeat just get an apexi n1 knock off there only like 150 bucks then get some headers that come with a good cat that will be a good exhuast for that stock d15

1 exell the true n1 exhaust cost like 500 bucks and the n1 ehaust is louder so if you want to keep it queit but still want a good exhuast with 2.50 inch exhuast just get the knock off of the n1..or just go to a junk yard and pull an exhaust off a stock eg like urs

OP what you might wanna do is go look for a local junkyard and take the exhaust system off of another Civic like yours if not check your local classifieds for a stock exhaust application.

If you're looking for a cheap but good exhaust, just search Tenrai on ebay, they aren't loud they are just deep and sound great IMO.

it would probably be far easier and cheaper if you went to an exhaust shop and had them make you a new exhaust. People around here get full exhaust made up for them for around $150.

Re: replacing the exhaust help please
i have the real deal N1 muffler (from my old s2k) with 2.5" piping, 1- 20" or 22" resonator and its still pretty damn loud. i have gotten 2 fix it tickets for my exhaust being too loud. understandably its 2.5" all the way back and that could have a great deal with it. If i were you working with a blank canvas, i would save up and wait til you find something worth getting. in other words stick with companies who are tried and tru with a good reputation for R&D. or... just listen for yourself

this is who i got my exhaust from. n1 style full catback exhaust. $140 and sounds great. get an megan racing knock off header, a magnaflow cat, and an n1 stlye exhaust from ebay and you'll have a great sounding full exhaust from the head back for under the price of a ws2 catback.

Dude..
Basically all ebay brand exhausts are LOUD. and completely RICER imo.
everyone has different opinions, of course, and some of these people will say that they like it because they might actually like the raspyness.
I personally own a ws2 and i love it.

Op, either spend $400 plus on a new (name brand) exhaust and buy a used cat. Or buy a used stock exhaust/cat (which isn't hard to find at all).

Re: replacing the exhaust help please
might buy eseans93's assuming my father agrees that its cool (im broke right now from buying the car so hes helping me out and i pay back as i can).
but we will see. once i get the exhaust fixed im gonna hopefully start fixing all the little stuff like:
broken cup holder
rear view mirror has a big black spot from the reflective stuff rubbing off i guess.
gotta get the cd player code.
all the speakers are blown.
sun visors are garbge.
missing a front driver side mud flap
metal cluch pedal (very slipery when just a little damp)
front lip driver side clips are broken
window and sunroof motors are dieing
window tint is out and faded blue and starting to bubble on the rear window.
i got a lot to do. let me know if anyone can help me with some of these parts.
btw, i have the grey interior

Re: replacing the exhaust help please
If you want to have a quiet exhaust go with RS*R exmag or greddy SP. For something a little cheaper you might wanna consider APEX worldsport, its under $400.

yea the ws2 is what i have my eye on now. might look into a tanabe. but either way its going to have to wait cause i cant afford either of them. i posted on tamparacing and found a guy who has the stock cat back from his 95 ex that he will give me for 70 bucs and hes local so no shiping.

Apexi WS2 is in your price range, and is one of the ONLY aftermarket exhausts that I've ever heard sound good on a Civic. It's almost as quiet as stock, and is only a little bit louder at high RPM. Looks good and sounds fantastic.
An N1 is a straight through muffler. Any straight through muffler is going to be loud. Period.
