Default Replacing Catalytic Converter - Any surprises?

I was just wondering if there was anything else that I should be aware of when replacing a catalytic converter? I'm about to order a direct fit replacement online and planning on replacing it myself. Is there anything I should be aware of like gaskets or new bolts and whatnot.

It's just that I don't want to get the car up in the air, get the old cat out and find out I need to replace something else only to put the car back together and going out to get the part.

Yep, nuts, bolts, springs, gaskets.

Penetrating fluid, like PB Blaster.

So I do need new nuts and bolts? I can't re-use the ones that I already have on there?

I doubt you'll get all of them out with breaking some, rust is not your friend...you may be able to reuse the springs.

you will break at least 2 out of the 5 bolts that hold it to the rest of the exhaust. be prepared to drill/hammer them out when the break.

If the car is obd 2 with an O2 sensor in the cat, be careful when removing it from the old cat. They often break due to being siezed/rust.
