Default Replacing A/C thermostat without removing evaporator

How is the A/C thermostat mounted in the evaporator in an EJ,EK,EM? Is it possible to replace (reintall) it without pulling the evaporator?

I know in the 1992-2001 the thermistor that is connected to the thermostat is ran into and clasped to the foils on the inside of the casing, but you cant remove it without opening up the casing, you can open the casing without removing it entirely first.... whhhich means having the system discharged and then recharged.
