Replacing a 1996 D16Y8 with a 2000 D16Y8
What kind of headaches can I expect while attempting this swap. Both are manuals.
Will I have to locate a 2000 EX ECU? and will I need an adapter? or can I use an adapter of some kind to reuse the origional one?
I presume that I should use the '96 wiring harness, distributer and related sensors.
Any difference in performance between the two?

Thanks for the quick reply Marvin,
This all makes perfect sense. I can simply make the 00 D16Y8 resemble a 1996, so the '96 ECU should never know what happened.
I presume that the '96 harness will plug into the 2000 crank trigger as well as the injectors and other related stuff?
I have installed several Civic engines, but have felt uneasy because Car-Part.com interchange lists the '99 and 2000 engines seperate from the 96 thru '98.
I wonder what the difference is?

Everything's the same, same sensor and all. The only differences I know of is that the 99-00 uses an air injection system but its mechanical and won't affect the ecu. And distributor plugs are different so just reuse yours. Also the 99-00 exhaust manifold is better as well on the 99-00 Y8. This is assuming the 99-00 your getting is a manual or auto engine, is your current engine auto or stick?

if the car is running a 96 ecu u must use the old 96-y8 ecu because the newer intake manifold have air injection and this ill create a vacuum leak.

question i have a 96 ek hatch when i got it it had a 98 y8 in it but had to sell my motor. Just got a 00 y8 out of a auto ek coupe what intake manifold do i need to get it running right
