replacement gauge faces
I bought some white gauge faces for my cluster. But I'm not sure how to take off the needles so i can take off the old faces. I tried on an old cluster and one of them broke off. does anyone know the proper way if there is one. i doubt they would sell these things if there wasnt.

hmm..if you take the needles off they will never work correctly agian. I don't know how to do this, but I would be wiling to bet you are about to get flamed like crazy.

Re: replacement gauge faces (Ricey McRicerton)
you gotta slip the gauge face over the needles, take your time, and be careful, DO NOT REMOVE THE NEEDLES,as they will never be correct again.

you dont have to remove the old faces. Just unscrew the tiny little screws and slip your new gauges on top of the old ones then screw the screws back in. And DO NOT take off the needles. Just take your time.

I wont flame cause I actually asked the same question a little while ago. Everyone told me not to do it but me being stubborn went ahead and did it. I broke three of them and the ones I didnt break got stuck or fell out or messed up some how. What I ended up doin was just breaking/ruining every needle so I got on ebay and bought a new cluster and just tranfered everything over to that one (new gauge faces)...
my situation was I had made some faces on photoshop and thought I had to take everything (needles) and stuff off to get the faces on there (in my situation I had to cause I had to get the template for my gauges)... most of the time for faces you buy you just slide the faces over the needles and you dont have to take any needles out at all. DONT TAKE THE NEEDLES OFF... YOU WILL REGRET IT... i ended up spendin about $120 on a project that was meant to be free.

Re: replacement gauge faces (aznm3nac3)
how do i slide it in though, if the holes on the face are smaller than the little black covering around the pivot of the needle. Im pretty sure its not just an overlay. its the exact size so i can screw it on, and has the numbers in transparent red so light can go through. I appreciate the help.

slide them right over into the trash
youre 90% likely to break at least 1 needle (the temp one is the most common)
you can trim that little extra bit off the needle (the stub) and it will give you more room to slide them on...yes it will be very tight...fit...not that stupid saying (ie MAD TIGHT Y0).
yes it is an overlay

dude its easy...just be very careful..i did it like 3 different times and also my girlfriend did it too after she watched me do the first one...
your going to have to do a little bending or forming to get the new gauges to fit with the needles...but you can move the needles back and fourth without worrying that something will jack up...

Re: slide them in
I got mine on and off 3 times with them functioning FINE afterwards (removing the needles)...
It finally got all f'd up when I put the wrong needle on the wrong cluster and it pulled the guage drive-pin out with it... they still kinda work at times....
Either way they never look even remotely good... if you want white faces then you really need to just spend the extra money on a jdm cluster...
The stock black under-lay blocks too much of the light for them to look good at night... and with them out the overlays aren't thick enough to diffuse the light... so it looks lame...
I'm just pissed cuz they came on and off FINE 3 times before I said F it I'll just take them off cuz they're lame... THEN the guages break...
Doesn't really matter to me though... I hardly ever look at the guages anyway... My first car was a 5speed w/o a tach... and I judge my speed by feel most times anyway...
Guages are over-rated.
