Default Replacement for D15B8

I believe the head gasket is going out on my motor and after reading about others having re-occurring head gasket problems with this motor, I'm considering swapping it out for a motor with a little more power (another D series?) for not much more than it would cost to fix the one I have. What motor is the closest to a drop in replacement into my 94 CX and not eat through head gaskets like the B8? Must be smog legal because I live in CA. Thank you!

pretty much any healthy d series will give you more power over that 8 valve b8! going for an ODB1 would make the swap alot easier, next step up from a b8, would be a d15b7, which will have a little more power, but not much over the b8, if you get a d16z6 vtec, you'll have a noticable difference over the b8... might want to consider a trans swap along with the motor, because no matter which motor you drop in, your transmission will be holding you back, the cx was made for fuel economy with super long gears

Any sources for a healthy motor? I'd like to keep the car but I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a motor swap since I just replaced the blown up motor in my 3.4 Tacoma and spent about $1700 doing so.

h motors is a good place, and very reputable, but last time I checked, they didint have any d series in stock, but there are other sites out there, just not with the reputation that h motors has, but there might be someone that can vouch for other sites... only other option, is to find a motor locally, and hope that its in good condition...
