Replaced PCV valve and MPG went up by 4!
I had some problems with my 98 Civic ex rough idle.
I bought a replacement PCV valve from Honda ($18) and felt like they raped me. I changed the oil and did the PCV valve at the same time. I filled up with gas and noticed an increase of about 4MPG. I was getting a steady 33-34MPG out of 10 gallons. I got 37 with 10gallons directly after.
just thought I would share because this is the first PCV valve I have EVER put in a car that I've owned and didn't think they made much difference. Well... they do. Idle is improved too.

Sure do. They're about $5, and you don't need an OEM Honda one unless you're willing to spend $20 on $.03 worth of metal and plastic .

Stock engine with 115k miles on it.
They do sell cheaper ones at auto parts stores but Im weird and try to buy Honda when I can.
I noticed a rough idle and that was the main reason I did it. The MPG was kind of a suprise although it had been gradually getting worse over time.
Your supposed to be able to check the valve by letting the motor idle and crimping / pinching the hose that goes to the intake manifold, you should hear the PCV valve click. This is about impossible cause on the D16y8 the valve is under the intake and I dont think I would have been able to hear it click anyway.
When I did get it out , i wiped it off and blew in it. It was stuck wide open. I also want to note I did it during an oil change because you have to take the oil filter off to get to the PCV valve on the D16.
Also to those who may attempt it, after you unhook the PCV valve from the black box on the backside of the engine, its easier to pull the hose thru the intake to the top side of the motor to actually get the PCV valve out of the hose. It would be a major PITA to try and do it under the car on the backside of the block.
