Replace steering rack question? NOT A POWER TO MANUAL THREAD!!
trying to replace my steering rack on my 97 cx manual steering. this question goes out to anyone who has doen a steerign rack before. how the hell do u get to the bolt that clamps the steering shaft on to the rack??? the one on the bottom of the steering shaft.... its rediculous!!???!!!

As in the one that links the interior column to the rack? It was stuck a bit indeed. You have to fully remove both bolts (10mm headed) and then slide it around and hope it works out. (Center and lock the steering wheel of course, SRS clockspring.) You've removed the black cover yeah? I'm not quite sure what else you could mean by 'get to' the bolts.

yes i think we are talking about the same thing. mine only appears to have one bolt... going through a clamp sort of deal holding the splined shaft on the steering rack.
you said theres a black cover that comes off? is this on the inside of the car?

holy crap ok so i got that. now how the hell do u get the splined shaft out!! it wont budge!
