no.thats why i asked.sorry, thats the only thing i can think of.All that stuff is in the tumbler. I think you got a faulty lock.

Look at the key. Are the grooves on it fairly worn down? My dad had a '87 that he put over a million miles on. Started it so many times that the key got worn and he could pull it out of the ignition when the car was running. I'm probably wrong, but just my two cents.

get a new one. think you got ripped. they only do that when the tumbler goes bad.Hope you didn't spend too much on it. there about $30 or $40 bucks at a parts store.

tell 'em you need a ignition lock for whatever car your workin' on. they'll give you a new cylinder with keys.

what do you mean? I thought you just replaced it? Don't wanna sound mean but why do you need a diy guide if you already put in that used one?LOL! but a ya either get a haynes manaul from autozone or got to the autozone website and the got vehicle repair guides on there. its pretty easy though.

Whoa wait a minute. Does the key 'click' when you turn it? Or is it just kinda mushy and turns back and forth like it's in a bowl of mud?
Reason I ask is if you don't line up the ignition switch on the column, the locking mechanism won't click into place and the key will slide out in any position, and the steering wheel won't lock.
See if your steering wheel will lock with the key out. Also, it's not difficult to repair an ignition cylinder's lock if it's just worn tumblers. Takes some time and patience, but no special tools or ability.
