Repairing bent rim?
Hey guys,
Hit a massive crater (not pothole. crater.) the other day.. Didn't see it until i was right in front of it and there were two cars in the other lane so i couldn't swerve at all. Anyways.
Since it seems to only really be bent on the outside lip and it wasn't bad enough to blow the tire, I was just wondering if it's at all possible to fix a rim that's been bent like this without taking it somewhere.. And if not, about how much would it cost to have it repaired?
Thanks!

If you hit hard enough to bend the rim I am sure your tires sidewall is comprimised in some way... I don't think it will be possible to fix something like that. You could heat it and knock it back out with a hammer but it will never be as balanced as is was before.

You can't fix that by yourself without proper tools. And you will never get it balanced correctly without a special machine. Your best bet is to go to a wheel repair shop and get it repaired the right way. Which would cost around $60-$120 where I live (CA). Don't really know how much PA wheel repair shops charge.

ha yeah, when i get back from school in a couple weeks i'll prolly just rock some steelies for a bit and then decide if it's even worth it to fix up/replace the "eh" 5zigen's or just save up for somethin a bit nicer.. maybe a set of slips..
