Default Removing your airbags (EG)

So I just purchased a sweet EH3. It's a 93 Si. Like everyone knows, they have a driver's side airbag. I wanna instal a DC2 steering wheel that my buddy has for me. The steering wheel has no airbag. I know it's illegal to remove an airbag system, but how the heck do you guys do it without worrying everytime you get out on the road!?

dont get in an accident and have te insurance company find out about it. because they can deny your claim.

Well what happens when you get into an accident, then they do some investigation, notice the car came equiped with an SRS system and was removed...they won't cover you. Plus, I believe somewhere in the v.i.n. number, it says the car came with an airbag system. I'm just worried about insurance, that's all.

Remove all of the SRS related wiring, remove SRS stickers. At least some of the '92 Si hatches sold in canada came without airbags, a friend of mine owns one, and quite honestly its the only one i've ever seen. It uses the same steering wheel as the non SRS canadian EX sedans, except that its black, has the cruise control and all. Also, get a non abs 5th gen civic cluster and swap the black overlay into your cluster so you don't have an ABS light. Thats about all I can tell you, you still might be screwed if you get hit. I do remember either W5 or the 5th estate did a show on airbags a while back btw, in regards to whether or not they really saved lives, turns out in most cases they do more harm then good, one other intersting thing it mentioned is that you are supposed to be able to go to the dealership and have the airbags disabled (such as if you are pregnant, or if you happen to be particularly short and need to sit dangerously close to the steering wheel)

i remember i posted a topic like this and got flamed on telling me why would you do it? its illegal and insurance is going to deny you on claims. well i drove without air bags for 3 years and as long as the insurance people dont know about it its all good just keep your stock one and if anything happens just swap it out

Removing the Airbags wasnt really I issue for me with insurance. When I first got it it was your basic 93 Civic DX Automatic. By the time I was rear ended and written off I had removed the airbags, added and removed a bunch of other things and it wasn't even auto anymore.

Insurance didnt seem to mind any of that, I believe they just wont pay you out more in a claim for any of the extra **** you put on there. Or I just got lucky I dont know.

It probably won't become an issue unless the payout is a large amount (ie you hitting a Mercedes). I would say it depends on your insurance. I have USAA and they pretty much do a estimate over the phone and send a check. Again, it depends on your company.

hell yeah its illeagal i got a ticket for no airbags in my 95 eg. the ticket said my car was not as it came stock from the manufacturer. we should all know by now that the man will hold us (imports) down any way they can. so you can get a ticket for pretty much anything you do. it all depends on if the cop is a dick or not.
