Do you happen to have any pics of the part you are speaking of?

Hmm not yet but i can take some they are the X shaped bars in the back top, i disconnected the middle portion, but can't take the bars themselves out, and i saw that i may need the "honda special tool" which i don't wanna dish out like 30 bucks for somethin im gonna use once

Actually here is a section of what im talking about: http://www.handa-accessories.c...r.pdf

Parts 12-14

Sorry to dig this up from the dead, but I just about killed myself taking my trunk springs out.
You can do it with a hammer, if you get the claws on and put some tension on the rod and pull it off, carefully... Here's what I did:
The first rod I hooked the hammer claw on and put some tension, I thought I was about to just pop it off.

Once I pulled a little and got it loose, it came flying at me like it wanted to take my head off, then the trunk lid came slamming down on my head. I was wearing saftey goggles, but I have a feeling that the rod would have gone through the goggles, through my head and out the back.

Words of caution:
Hold the rod in the center with a leather glove while you take it out, to keep it from becoming a projectile.
Watch your head.

I believe there is a special tool that's supposed to be used to remove the trunk springs.

After the first one, I realized how to do it with leverage and a claw hammer. Even with that special tool, make sure to have a good grip or it may go flying.

It was actually a lot easier to get them back on than get them off.

I did mine in a parking lot without tools, BE CAREFUL. it sucks but you can do it without tools, you just cant reuse them if you rebend them.
