Removing shifter linkage - plz help
So Im trying to put a different transmission in my 97 LX 5 speed. Everything is just about ready to go except for the little thing that attaches the shifter linkage to the transmission. How do you get this thing off. It is concave on one end and has a small ridge that secures it on the bracket, i guess. The other end looks like a pin, kind of like a rivet, oval head type deal. Anyways the chiltons says use a punch but from looking at it, I dont think a punch will do anything. so... help please...
Also I used a normal tie rod separator to get the lower ball joint apart and it messed up the boot over the bearing. Do I have to get a new ball joint or can I get a boot? And do you guys recommend a certain ball joint separator that actually works?

Use an an allenkey wrench, like this one:
Then tap on the corner lightly with a crescent wrench or something. Or a regular one will work too, as long as it has the right angle so you can tap it, the pin will come out - most likely go flying. You usually replace the spring pin.
Just use that, don't bother with a punch, some people will say use a punch, but these are also the same people that bitch and moan about that pin being "a pain in the *** to take out" - I always use an allen key - I've never had a problem with that pin.
What happened to your ball joint - it usually works fine - I'm not quite understanding what happened to it.

never had a problem with the pin using a punch along with a sledge hammer, i think the sledge makes the difference.
and using a ball joint separator was pretty dumb, easiest way is to pop it using a wrench...or hit the side of it with a hammer till it frees...
you can fine replacement bushings on ebay, energy suspension makes em.
