Removing the rotors...
Well, I'm putting some powerslow rotors on the front of my DX until I find a whole new suspension setup out of an SI... (is that my only option? or can I do a GSR suspension as well?)
Anyways... I removed all the brake caliper hardware and am left with what looks like the two screws (in between the wheel studs) that need to be removed. They appear to be really soft??? I've already bent one a little bit (not beyond use) but pretty bad... Any hints or tips on how to get these suckers out? Also, why in the hell does my $70 helms manual, not say *anything* about taking the damn rotors off??? I looked ALL through the brake section and found nothing. Go figure...

exactly
lube up the screw... insert impact driver... tap with hammer, then turn counter-clockwise while still taping... screw will come right out!

i have to use a little more muscle on that screw than a "tap" with the hammer...

If you have a socket set that has some screw driver attachments, use the phillips head one. Have someone hammer on the back of your ratchet while you tourque. Similar concept as the impact, but doesn't cost anything if you have the parts.

I saw that PB Blaster yesterday at Autozone. Is that stuff really good? Looks dangerous how they show it eating away at styrofoam.
Anyways, I hate those screws too! I always slip and strip it a little everytime I work on the rotors.

When they are stripped, I melt the top of the screw then remove the disk, the I remove what's left of the screws with wise-grips.

Except the cost of a new ratchet when your friend breaks yours while whacking it with a hammer.

Thanks for the past thread...
What's everyone's take on PowerSlot rotors anyways? I was looking at them yesterday, and the slots, or grooves, or whatever are drilled all the way to the edge of the rotor itself. Is this safe practice? I seem to remember reading somewhere that a good slotted rotor doesn't cut all the way to the edge of the rotor.
And, what's a Harbor Freight?
