Default Removing PS is a NO NO, True or False?

I recently was told that removing Power Steering on a car thats supposed to have it, is a big no no! This being that that steering rack or pinions will get screwed up sooner or later. (something like that)

However, I read most of you guys take them out for more hp or room...

So is this true or am I gonna call the MYTHBUSTERS!

false. as long as there is fluid in the rack to keep it nice and lubricated, it should be fine.

do it - it's a great mod that's almost free. i definately noticed more power throughout every angle of the tach, and if you put a breather on the loop of the 2 existing fittings, the wheel isn't even that hard to turn when stopped. also, it feels a lot cooler on the road - you have to fight it a little bit, it's awesome. do it!!

I've been thinking about doing this for a while but live ina city and I have to parallel park a lot which is why I've avoided it. What is this breather trick? Can you be a little more specific please?

dude unless you are extremly small, i mean like under 100 pounds, its not that hard to turn the wheel. My girlfreind can do it, and she has very little muscle only weights 105lbs.

FOR THE LAST TIME ITS NOT HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL WITH OUT PS.

and also when driveing your car on twisty, i feel alot more in control of the car and you can feel the road, with PS the car trys to help you out it seems which fuckn sucks if you ask me. so when it comes down to pick up some weights get alil muscle and remove your PS

yeah ps is for the old and weak.

the breather thing:
when you remove your ps you have to loop the 2 existing fittings on the rack - 1 was for the high pressure feed line to the pump, 1 was for the rubber return line from the pump. you just put a rubber hose connecting these 2 fittings so fluid doesn't go everywhere, and stays in the rack. now this will work fine, but your arms are moving all the fluid in the rack.

if you cut that loop open, install a tee fitting, and attach a line to the middle fitting, with a container with air / fluid in it (brake resovior, coke bottle, etc) attached to the other end, you're now allowing air into the system also. this is the breather thingy and it makes the wheel easier to turn, because instead of pushing mad fluid, your pushing some fluid and some air.

there is a huge thread in the integra forum about this whole thing - read it first.
and then do it!!!! great mod to do for the money!!!

i've owned 2 civics without PS and one with, and right now i wish i had it back. it's a lot more comfortable, it gives you a more confident feeling while you're driving because your steering wheel wont rip its self out of your hands if you ever lose control of the car, and its a lot easier to maneuver around at slow speeds. unless you need the extra 2-3hp that you're going to get from it, then it's worthless.

the myth is it ***** up.. if u plan on putting the ps back on.. air in the pump and or rack.. eventually yes.. mostly happens on domestic steering box... power steering is good but i am swolled so. hehe. go work out .. or, put high *** pressure in your tires.. .. plus u can get used to no ps real quick. i would like ps on luxury cars..

go ahead, remove the p/s. you will be fine. i know numerous roadracers that have had their p/s removed for 4-5 years, with no ill effects. it is perfect for drag racers or roadracers, but personally, i left mine in. i did slow the p/s ratio down, so it has a bit more feedback, but turning a set of hot sticky 225 hoosiers on a 8.5 inch wheel is not the easiest thing when you do not have p/s. but, then again, some say i am old and weak...

not having power steering is great! I first just took my belt off and could tell a huge difference in the way my car pulled. Definantely gained a couple ponies out of it. The only problem was that the wheel seemed impossible to turn. Now I have taken out the whole system, drained some fluid, and looped the rack like jwn7 had talked about. Now I don't even notice I don't have it unless i'm trying to make a real tight turn in a parking lot. Steering response is also great now. Espescially on the highway. My car is no longer twitchy because of the damn ps. Now I can actually feel what my front wheels are doing it no longer has a false sense which is much better for autox and other racing. I will probably eventually install a breather also, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I have felt how it is with a breather and it feels like you haven't even lost ps at all in parking lots. Its great.
