Removing Engine from the bottom help
HI all.. Im getting ready to pull out my engine so i can change out my shortblock and woud like to get some pointers before i start. I read on a thread that removing the engine from the bottom is easier, i just didnt really understand the steps to do it. So if anybody knows how can you please explain how to and maybe some pics? only reason is bc i dont really want to rent a cherry picker...and its the weekend and most places are closed.
I have a couple of questions also:
1) Can you change out the shortblock/bottom end without removing the whole engine?
2) Is it better to use the rubber oil pan gasket or use High temp RTV silicone gasket?
any info would be great! thank you!
BTW
The engine is a b16a2 and my car is a 99 si

Re: Removing Engine from the bottom help
Are you changing the shortblock or the block?
Anyways dont you just put the car on tall jack stands.
Then loosen all your hoses, connectors, and mounts while having a beefy jack with a sheet of plywood(as to not bend your oil pan) and lower the engine from the oil pan?

Re: Removing Engine from the bottom help
if you were doing a thing such as getting rods or pistons for the block, you dont need to remove the block (simply remove the oil pan and some stuff with it and the head and you can get to them there)
