removing a/c and have a question?
i just removed my a/c and i have a quick question. How many of you that removed your ac also removed the ac core(evaporator) behind the glove box. just wondering because thats the only think i didnt take out. I didnt have time. Is it heavy? It doesnt look that hard to take out. Let me know. BTW it took like 20 minutes to take out the whole ac system. easy ****.

Re: (GsR HtCh)
got a few pages of helms. Im pretty sure they are two different things but i dont know if they are dependent on one another. i mean does a car with no ac have the ac evaporator still?
the pic says without ac so i think that it is not necessary

the heater blower will still work.. you can take out the core it self and put the box back in.it is a bitch to take out without breaking anything though.. the lines from under the hood connects to the core which sits inside the blower box. u need to tale the glove box remove the carpet and bracket out.. cause there are screws in the back of the box also. keep us updated.. i will keep my ac.. i rather keep cold in the summer than a couple hp and pounds.

i removed the lines going to the box from the engine bay. i just gotta remove the box. so the box is necessary for the heat to properly flow?

you will have to find a heating duct piece from a non ac civic. I neglected to take mine out when removing ac because I don't really think the thing weighs much at all.

yeah i thought about messing with it today when i took my ac out. instead of replacing it with a part from a non ac civic, is there any other scheme i could pull on this thing (duct tape, zip ties, etc)

Its not hard to pull out the evaporator, not in an EG at least. Takes about 5 mins to have it on the floor. You don't need any parts from a non AC car either. I took some plastic stock, cut it to size, clamped it in the box, and siliconed it air tight. That way I can remove it easily in the summer should I choose to put the AC back into the car.
For those doubting the benefits of the AC removal, it helps a good deal. Total weight removed with the AC was 37lbs in my hatch. That included all piping, evaporator, brakets, condensor and the compressor. It makes a big difference removing that weight off the front of the car. Downside is it also makes traction more of an issue, even with LSD. This combined with some other crap and I got 160lbs out of my hatch with little trouble. And yes, that much weight helps out a good deal.

hell yeah... my car is faster now; ditching ps was very noticeable, ac was a little less, but still there. if you haven't removed ps and ac yet, do it... best free thing you can do. removing the ac only took me an hour and a half. now my engine bay is a little less cluttered too... criuse control is next on the chopping block.
