removed my ps today... now idle is surging 1-1.5k
like the title says: i took my power steering out today - not just the belt - i removed everything; when i finished and started the car up the idle began to continuously surge between 1000 and 1500 rpm. if i let it sit for a while it holds steady around 1100, but when i apply some throttle, it surges again.
anybody know why this is happening?
tomorrow i'm going to reset my ecu, maybe that'll fix it. if not, i'm going to clean my iacv: how do i do this? if that doesn't work, what else could it be?
thanks

Quite possibly a vacuum leak.
Did you double check ALL of the hoses you removed for proper plugging?
I would start there before anything else.

hey man did you finally get the rack looped and everything? Did you see my post about which metal line to take out? I don't know why your idle is doing that. Mine didn't do it. There wasn't anything that should have been unplugged from the intake manifold. I don't see why that would be happening. Are you sure you didn't remove the wrong metal lines?

yeah i saw that - thanks for you help . i did remove the right lines... that nut was a BITCH!!! when i got that nut out, the rest of that high pressure line came right out.
now that i think about it when i pulled that out i might have bumped a vaccum line or something - i was so damn pissed from that nut, when i finally got it, i pulled that line out with a little too much excitement . i bet i messed something up, or one of my connections isn't tight enough. i'll check that stuff tommorow. thanks guys!
any more ideas?

yea man that nut was my arch nemesis. It was such a little bitch. There was no room to even turn a wrench to get it out.

I did mine a while back. Nothing like that happened to me. Vacuum leak is the most likely problem. There was a vacuum line in the way when I did mine. I must've knocked it off 6 times while removing the PS.

http://www.tweikmaster.com shows how to do it on an integra. Its very similar for a civic though...only harder . The lines that you need to remove from the rack stick out towards the back of the car under the firewall and are near impossible to get to. I did the whole thing on my friend's integra in like 30 minutes.

im betting you removed a vaccum line by accident. it happens all the time when im working on my motor. just check all the lines for a leak, if not i dont know, that seems wierd that your idle would change from removing p/s.

Re: (SOHC_MShue)
breather setup. i just bought one of those kits from padawan. the wheel isn't really that much harder to turn when the car is stopped. i haven't really got on it yet so i haven't experienced what it's like at speed, and how much harder it pulls.
just get a brake resoivor, some screws, tubing, clamps, and a tee fitting. that's all you need if you've already got it looped. just put the t fitting in the middle of the loop.
