Default removed ac and ps yesterday

just as a heads up, i took out my ac system including compressor, and disconnected my ps belt.

the total weight save on the air conditioner was 30lbs. i took my car to STS to get the freon drained, they charged me 40$ and when i went home to undo the lines there was a SIGNIFICANT amount of gas left in the system that vented directly into my face. i called them and told them what happened and they said it was normal, i didnt believe them but there was nothing i could do. has anyone had this happen after getting the freon dranied?
anyway after that it was just a matter of removing the crap, you have to cut the ac pelt b/c it is looped aroundthe engine mount, no big deal, mine was fraying pretty bad anyway.

the ps belt was cake, undo 12 mm bolts after marking the locatons with a sharpie, then loosen the wing nut, it comes right off.

first off from an acceleration standpoint it is noticable. the torque band is lowered and it pulls harder, nuff said.

steering under 5mph is tough but definately doable. but at speed the steering is 200percent better my car doesnt dart around the road anymore, following grooves, it just holds a straight line. it is much more predictable when the front wheels will break loose, esp in the rain, and it feels like you are actually driving you car. thats the best i can explain it, i should have done it months ago, but i was worried about the tough steering, it's seriously not a big deal, and if you loop the lines and take out the ps pump and resivour it will be even easier at low crawling speeds and save an additional 15lbs.

does anyone know how i can get some of the slop out of my sterring wheel, there is about 3" of turning that doesnt do anything. thanks.

yeah in the south i understand that, but my car is becoming a weekend car and in the northeast i only used to use it in july and early august. certain sacrifices must be made

btw next project will be to take out the dash in order to get the condenser out.

About the steering, you should look into purchasing a manual rack. It will fell much more precise and turn alot easier. Youll never get a power rack with no pump on it to act like a manual rack.

i'm not going to get a manual rack in that case, the ratio is too slow, i will wait to see if quaife follows through and produces that manual rack with the 15:1 gearing

the dx level manual rack is a hell of a lot better than a power rack, but it'll always be econo-box slow turning. that bugged the crap out of me the first time i autocrossed.

they actually charged you to drain your ac? when i was installing my homemade turbo kit, i called around, and midas said they'd do it for free.
now, i'm putting ac back in cuz it's getting hot and no more turbo.

removing just the PS belt is kind of dumb, unless it's just temporary.

In order to get the benefits of a manual power rack, you will need to remove ALL of the lines/pump, etc. Let most of the fluid out of the rack, and then loop the lines. Once you do this, turning the wheel when standing still is SO much easier and the response is SO much better. PLus, you retain the closer steering ratio of the power rack
