I was searching on how to install a short shifter on a 99ex and even though I didn't find anything on my actual car, I found that some people said about dropping the B Pipe and some said nothing. Is it necessary to unbolt the B Pipe or can it be done easily without?

what kind of short shifter are you trying to install? I installed a Neuspeed one without having to remove the exhaust...

You "can" do it with the B pipe still on, but it's a bastard. Just unbolt it from the catalytic converter and be done with it.

Yeah either unbolt the mid pipe from the cat or the cat from the header, take it off it's hangers and let it drop down. Plenty of room now.

Yup unbolt it from the cat, unplug the o2 and disconnect the hangers. Also check to see if you need to bend the weight up on the end of the linkage and cut the heat shield off the pipe as well. Before I had purchased a aftermarket exhaust I had to remove the shield and bent the linkage because the shifter would rub and vibrate at idle.

I am getting a skunk2 dual bend. As for my exhaust, I already have a thermal cat-back. Thanks for the advice

Dont take the exhaust off i have an 99 ex and i thought i had to but i just pushed the pipe over enough to slide the shifter assembly out. When i did it it took maybe 25 min to install it without the piping coming off... you will need a swivel socket head(dono if thats the exact term) to get the 2 bolts that are rite above the pipe

I did an install on a friends who has a 60mm piping (apexi) Didnt have a problem.

ive gotta thermal cat back on my 92. i dropped the b pipe to get the shifter in. it just makes it easier, and its much less tome consuming..

remember. work smarter not harder

just take it off the hangers it will be a little easyer other than that no, you don't have to take it off

You guys are like 50-50 both ways. I'll guess i'll make the decision when I get under there. Is this something that can be done on jack stands or should I use a lift?

i took the cat off the header cause the bpipe-cat bolts were to hard to get loose

I just put the skunk 2 dual bend on last night, I have greddy evo exaust and I simply undo the two rear 12mm bolts then the trans. shift stabilizer bolt(the one w/ the bushing mounted to the trans.) drop that bar and the shifter , and install the new shifter put some high temp grease in there. attach the three bolts and your good to go, took me maybe 25 min. total.... good luck hombre'

lol if you want to install the short shifter you better put it on a jackstands at least.

It is fine to use a floor jack and jack stands.

BTW yeah using a floor jack with jackstands will be fine. Just make sure you jack it up far enough so you can enough room.
