Default Remove CD player and just have an iPod? Is it possible?

Alright, so I don't know much about car audio... Now I was just wondering if it would be possible, in my del Sol, to remove the CD player and only have an iPod line pop out somewhere. I want to use the CD player space for something else and I only ever listen to my iPod anyways... What would I need to do? Thanks!

You would need something that can amplify the signal from the iPod and put it out as 2 channels. So for example, powered computer speakers, if you could find 12v ones. You could hook up the 12v source, plug the iPod into the AUX and cut the wires going to each speaker and hook them up to the wires for the car. That example would be very possible with a 12v inverter and a set of those cheap Logitec powered speakers.

Does anyone make some sort of preamp with level control and mute function that has mini jack input and RCA outs to an amp that would power my speakers?

clarion makes a really nice EQ that has a aux capability on it which is perfect if u dont want to use a regular cd player, of course you still will need an amp to the speakers but you would no longer need a cd player in the dash.
Amazon.com: Clarion EQS746 1/2 DIN Graphic Equalizer with Built-in Crossover: Car Electronics Amazon.com: Clarion EQS746 1/2 DIN Graphic Equalizer with Built-in Crossover: Car Electronics
I use this exact one in my car and i love it.

Right on. I like the idea of eq.

Another thing I saw was the Audiocontrol Overdrive plus. It seems like it would do the job. I really like the remote for the volume too. Would that work?

I installed isimple stuff for several years and can say the majority of their stuff is crap. I replaced more of their products with replacement stuff than any other car audio item that frys/bestbuy/car toys sells. I would stay away from their stuff. If you absolutely wanted to go a integrated kit PAC sells the better stuff out there.

The Eq option is gonna give you the higher Voltage output you want. 5volt output will give your amp/amps more signal which helps on the side of quality and clarity.

Is there such a device that you can do this with the factory harness? I really don't want to buy an amp and all sorts of nonsense. Again, this is for my del sol...

I just got what you are saying. I could go with the PAC pxdx and get the appropriate harness for my car and then I would have an 1/8" connection straight to my factory harness and system? That would be perfect

Mike! This is what i am gonna do

I am going to find an OEM tape player. Going to open it up, find the two output wires from the tape reading device, cut and splice in some aux inputs, and then use that to plug the IPOD into. Perhaps also lock the tape deck into the "play" position.

Now everything should still work because the control unit will still see the tape player as being "there", and you can still change to radio if you want.

It should be tapped pre-amp, and bobs your uncle.

Heres a pin out of the wire so you can back trace to the L/R channels.
