Red Lining at 5600 RPM problem
sorry for bringing this up again...but I also have the same problem! :/
car is not in LIMP mode...
no CEL codes...
it works like magic with D16Z6...hit 3000rpm and off it goes till 5000rpm...then it doesn't engage VTEC!
today I tested the VTEC solenoid...it works!
tested it again today...warmed it up...1st, foot down hit rev limit on 5600-5700rpm...2nd, the same story...put the car in neutral, again hit rev limit on 5600rpm with no gear selected! :/
mods on the engine:
ITR coil
platinum PFR7 sparks
k&n filter
also, recently I did put a carbon hood...but can it be that? :/
'cause of the electric current?
any suggestion?
I read through this thread but did not find a resolution. Help appreciated.

Re: Red Lining at 5600 RPM problem
Full car information is required, year, make, model, trim level and mods.
You got the mods and the motor but everything else is lacking.
You running a D16Z6 in a datsun 240z or is it in a volvo?
I guess we could assume we're talking about the car in your signature but that could be totally wrong too.

Re: Red Lining at 5600 RPM problem
My first thought is that the engine is fine but the tach is wrong.
The ECU self-tests the VTEC system through the VTEC oil pressure switch. If the solenoid is commanded on, but the pressure doesn't come up as expected, a code will be thrown and it will go to limp mode.

Re: Red Lining at 5600 RPM problem
Based on his post above with the "" attached to it and the fact it's been 3 years, I'm assuming it's fixed and had something to do with the gaskets and seals he replaced.
