Reconnecting D series trans to motor
I can't seem to properly align the trans to the motor. I have the clutch alignment tool and tighten the bolts but when I try and connect the trans to the motor is wont fit all the way in flush. Is there something that I'm doing wrong, or a trick that I could learn thanks.

Yes and my friends have told me it needs to be flush but I had a small gap when connecting and I want it done right so I will disassembly it again

ill upload one tomorrow, but as of now I have the trans sealed to the motor but it wasn't flush when I tighten the bolts and I don't want to mess up the trans or the clutch

Did you put a very thin film of the high-temp grease on the splines? How big is the gap? A little is ok at first as you hold it attached. Put the 2 lower bolts in first like it shows in the Helms. Anyway, when I did mine it wouldn't shove all the way in, but the bolts eased it in. However, I think it was 1/4" gap max. Hopefully you have a jack under the side of the tranny to help stabilize and/or extra hands.
Make sure the dowel pins are in good shape and the holes they go into are clean enough.
You are right to be cautious when reconnecting it though, I was too.

last one i did i put a 2x4 against the side of the frame and would wiggle and pry it toward the motor until it slipped in and and started a bolt. this way u know its in all the way. it has to be an even gap all the way around. start a couple bolts turn the crank a few times( to align the splines) and try wiggling and sliding it in until the block and trans meet.

UPDATE: I disconnected the trans and motor and reconnected them. there was no more than a quarter inch gap on the right side of the trans everything else was pretty much sealed so I think im good..thank you to everyone who contributed

Glad you got it.
The "wong" answer is to *lightly* thread a few of the bell housing bolts onto the engine and work the tranny on from there.
This works 100% for me, but you should supposedly never do this. Ever.

You can ruin a clutch disc that way if the input shaft isn't going into the hub in the disc correctly. That's not to say I haven't done it that way, but that's why you're not supposed to do it.
