Recently purchased 99 SI
Well I have just picked up a blue 99 Civic SI. The car is stock minus a crappy cold air. I have been into mustangs and own a 04 Cobra that sits in the garage. Bought this SI to use as a daily and wanted to try something new. I have some quick questions about the car:
1. Does the SI require 93 oct gas?
2. What oil in these cars?
3. Right now I need to do some minor things, wheel bearings in rear and maybe new struts. Also wanting to do basic tune up. What plugs, wires?
4. Wanting to do some minor mods. This is my plan, springs (maybe H&R's, had these on my mustangs). With springs do you need some kind of camber adjustment? T
5. Then want to do a nice cold air, exhaust and found a place that sells brembo slotted drilled rotors with pads for $229, is that any good?

Re: Recently purchased 99 SI (96lasersnake)
1. Yes, it takes premium fuel because of the higher compression.
2. 5w30
3. Plugs, wires, dizzy rotor, dizzy cap.
4. Unlike maybe the mustangs, camber is adjusted using adjustable upper control arms (such as Skunk2, Omni Power, etc.). What are you plans for your suspension, just a nonadjustable (height wise) drop?
5. There are sponsors on these boards that can hook you up with rotors and pads.

Re: Recently purchased 99 SI (BlueIntegraBoy)
Cool thanks for the help. I am trying to read up on these cars. I am planing on mobil 1 in the car. Is dizzy a brand? Where to get? I am planning on a nonadjustable set up, just lowering springs, so would I need the upper arms?

Roycivic92: Yeah I read this when I was searching google on these cars. I will take care of it
Civicjoe: Thanks, never heard that LOL
Blueintegra: I really liked the H&R's on my gt. I think I will try them. and I will get the arms. Thanks guys. Have a friend that owns a tuner shop here locally, going to go to him tomorrow and see what he can do to get the car running perfect and maybe some mods, here are my plans. What you guys think:
New front and rear wheel bearings, rears are making alot of noise
Oil/filter change with mobil 5w30
Tranny fluid with GM syncomesh
Maybe new motor mounts, new belts, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor
then if enough $$$ left, springs, struts, camber arms, intake, exhuast, brakes
Thanks again guys
Also this car had the Vtech stickers and SI badge removed. Any idea where to get those items?

Yeah, I like the car. I owned a 03 TR mach and loved it. Dont get me wrong I like the SI, but it's no where near as much fun as a Mach. It is kinda hard getting into this car with 100ftlbs of torque after driving my cobra with 400. But the car gets good MPG's and looks good. I am excited to get it perfect

Re: Recently purchased 99 SI (96lasersnake)
1) SI's require at least 91 octane
2) 5w30 Mobile 1 Synthetic is popular
3) If it's just for DD get OEM plugs & wires. Or you get the NGK plugs & wires
4) H&R Sports for our is cars is good, especially paired with Koni yellows. I hear nothing but good about them. With that drop a camber kit is not required, but just get a alignment and you're good to go.
5) Check out the Market Place here on H-T. There are a lot of good deals.

I hear ya on the cobra and have that power under ya, it's a rush no doubt. But now my si is set at 375hp and it will haul. I've been up against a couple of cobra's and they left with their feelings hurt, but I still love and respect their cars. They are 2 different worlds and they will never compare to bad people just dont undrestand that sometimes

Sent you an email
Blueintegra: Why change, they tend to go out?
Bee1: There are alot of nice cars in that thread. Where do you get the front plugs for the license plate holes that alot of those cars have?

Re: Recently purchased 99 SI (96lasersnake)
$76.95 seems average for the the NGK wires and plugs. shop around a little more for them.
Password intake. ehhh i dunno. I never had any experience with them.
Definitely grab the Timing Belt Kit. It's the cheapest i've came across
You might need a new valve cover gasket when you change your t-belt.

Yeah it has one on there right now. The filter is trash. The temp sensor wont stay in the tube on this one as well. Just kinda liked how that fills out the engine bay and looks nice.
