recent motor swap
i just finish with a b18b1 in a hatchback and sometimes when i slow down or try to downshift it gets stuck and go into gear. it's like i have to stop completely then pump the clutch trying to get it into gear. the car also has a new clutch.
also sometimes when i turn on the engine or leave it on neutral it shuts down and i have to turn the engine back on and rev it. i have no idea why this happens and maybe someone has this problem b4 who can help. any post would be greatly appreciated

Re: recent motor swap (natoriousbao)
Any CELs? When did you replace the clutch (how long ago)? Stock clutch? New flywheel, resurfaced stock wheel, just slapped the bitch together? Sounds like poor clutch engagement to me but we'll have to dig a little deeper into the gory details of the swap to be sure..

im not sure wat CELs are. the performance clutch was put in to the tranny then together with the engine and into the car. all in a long days work of 10 hours straight. it worked great at first until i left my boys house to go to another town. it didnt start to **** up till about another 50 miles.

CEL=Check Engine Light, is it on?
Ok so you installed the clutch during the swap but..

Also what car did you put the swap into? You may have gotten a clutch kit for a cable trans if your is hydro or visa versa. I'm still lacking quiet a bit of detail needed to even narrow down what went wrong. I can only help if your willing to help yourself..

How could this be the cause of his problem....because the flywheel was not resurfaced? c'mon man

The only difference between the clutch kit for a cable trans and a hydraulic trans is if the cable trans is 1990-1991. The transmission input shaft is smaller in diameter and has less splines than a 1992-2001 B-series transmission. The 1992-2001 B-series transmission all use the SAME clutch kit with exception to the ITR becasue it has a slightly higher sprung pressure plate. The clutch discs are all the same pretty much. The only reason that Honda changed the clutch disc center is becasue of reliability issues in the first few years that they changed input shaft diameters.
To be honest, this sounds to me like there is a leak in the clutch system and you are losing pedal pressure or if you installed a new flywheel (or had the old one resurfaced) you did not install the appropriate shim to bring the flywheel surface out to where it should have been for proper clutch release.
here is an example.....
if you had .030" of material taken away from your flywheel during a resurface then you should install a .030" shim inbetween the flywheel and the crank to properly space out the flywheel to proper height.

Re: recent motor swap (DirtySol)
If the step is off or there is warping it certianly could cause this problem. Poor engagement.
I must have been misinformed about the PP being different between cable and hydro. Thanks for the input on that.

there are only three ways that you can bolt a pressure plate to a flywheel. The dowels are placed evenly to allow for proper alignment and so that the bolts do not have to take the force of the clutch grabbing and tring to spin.
He would have had a lot more problems if the flywheel was warped and it would not cause poor engagement.

Re: recent motor swap (DirtySol)
i checked the clutch pressure. it was the first thing i thought of but the clutch seems to be running fine. then i saw that my driver side mount was tore up and had to get a new one running all over town cuz the dipshit b4 me worn it out. musta jumped outa place wen the motor is running and cant catch the tranny or something like that. thanks for all who posted.

when you install a new clutch, i'd suggest adjusting the clutch pedal if it's been messed around with... when i got my civic, the clutch was worn out... so insteaad of replacing the clutch the adjusted the clutch pedal... this way the clutch doesn't slip but there's a possibility that it will wear out too thin and break and cause uncalled for headaches... this is how i'm driving the car now but i moved the clutch engagement higher so now the clutch slips with higher rpms and the car would stall if i don't gas it enough...
only thing i can think of is to check the clutch adjustment and make sure that your main relay is not messed up.. leaning towards the clutch adjustment though
now that i think about it, it might not be a clutch problem (but i'd check the clutch adjustment anyway to make sure it's not the problem), but instead it could be bad grounds... i'd redo the main grounds....sand down the paint and tighten snugly but don't overtighten or bolts break...
seems like a low idle problem of some type... check grounds, fuel pressure, distro cap&rotor for wear....etc...
as far as gettign stuck in gear are you talking about the shifter getting stuck and won't go into gear? or what... that could be due to worn out motor mounts..
you gotta give more info and when exactly you get the problems you have.. it could be multiple items... did you have same problems before replacing clutch? check that your tranny ground is good
good luck!
