Default Rebuilding my head

Ok, since my last thread.. I was going to just get my head resurfaced b/c of a blown head gasket.. now i'm thinking of just rebuilding the whole thing.

What should I tell the machine shop to replace?

so far:
New Valve Stem Seals
Valve Stem Springs

and i dont know after that.. anything else? btw, this is just a DD car

why springs? do you beat on the car? how many miles? i would just get the head inspected, resurfaces, valve job, new stem seals and call it a day.

seals, seats, stems, not sure if you need retainers, if you want them go for it.

port and polish, dude just take it to the machine shop and tell them to refresh it for you. theres no need to replace the springs and valves, your not beating on it...your fine.

port and polish would be a complete waste for a DD auto IMO

yea thats true, so thats what pnp meant.. and also a 3 angle job isnt even needed too. i just want to replace stuff that probably got damaged or i should just replace for the hell of it since my head gasket blew.

btw.. since i gotta take off the intake/exhaust manifolds, do i have to buy the gaskets for them 2?

just take it to them and ask them to spec the head they will check the head for warp and deck it if it needs it replace the valve stem seals, have them check the valve guides and replace any that are out of spec

the decking needs to be checked and any reputable shop will only mill it if the head is out of spec. If you have over 100k on the head and are going to have it worked on replace all the valve steem seals period you have the head off and its easy and cheep to do. So if its going in for the deck to be checked again a good shop will only replace things that are out of spec so have them check all the valves and guides and replace only what is out of spec. I have sent heads in that they have replaced 3 valves no guides and replace all the seals. and others that have only need to be milled to true out the deck. It can be a real crap shoot as to what you might need. Ask some of the service stations around you as to where they send out there work to be done, the dealer can be a great place to find good mechine shops most dealers send these things out to have any work done to the head
good luck

yea replace both.exhaust gaskets are "crush" type and your supposed to replace them each time you take pressure off them. do the intake one as well... dont wanna risk a vaccuum leak from something so simple
