Well you have a huge task in front of you.

Why not sell your car and buy a rwd car? You can use all the money you saved for all kinds of mods.

Is there enough room to run a driveshaft under the car to the rear wheels? I am assuming there isn't a tunnel in the chassis for the driveshaft like in most rwd cars.

What are you going to use for a rear differential and driveshafts?

If you are going to use NSX parts or S2000 parts then it is going to cost you.

I suppose you could try using CRV parts.

If I were you I would trade my car in for a late model Miata, or better a Spec Miata that has had suspension work done to it. There are tons of parts for those cars.

Just boost your del sol, id hate to see someone waste time, money, and self aggravation, I doubt the outcome will out weigh the Labor and cost.

3500 or so can get you a pretty nice setup, but I guess it all depends what you want.

WOW you need to rethink what you are doing if you can't even figure out an engine and trans set up. You will need to go with the S2000 trans if you want to stay honda. how the heck are you going to mount a transverse mounted engine and trans axle and make it rwd. The fact that you haven't even figured this part out tells me you need to do a ton more research. Do a search for rwd delsol there are several on here that have mounted them in the rear. Good luck

thats why i was checkin to see if a different motor could be used and i considered the mid engine thing too, i was just checking about the s2000 thing b/c i want to stay honda and if it would work i could pick up the whole car at the junk yard for 350 bucks. so yeah but if it wont work im probly just gonna make it mid engine. thank you for some actual help.

two things tried looking for mid engine del sol, no luck mabey you know a key word other than rwd del sol. and wouldnt that be even harder to to because of all the stings like heat, brakes, throttle, clutch cable, shift and all the other things that either go to the front or come out the firewall?

Except for the S2000, every other Honda, even the NSX has a transverse mounted engine. You need to find the transmission from a 4wd vehicle like a CR-V or an Element to allow you take the power from a transverse mounted engine and send it to the rear wheels.

Once you get that worked out, you need to run a driveshaft down the middle of the car. I don't know how you will get that done without either cutting a huge channel down the middle of the car or having the driveshaft drag on the ground.

There is no way you are going to be able to convert it to a mid engine configuration. Forget that idea. Unless you can get an NSX gearbox I don't know how you will get the power to wheels. Plus then you need to run water lines from the radiator in the front of the car all the way to the engine. It isn't impossible or anything, however it totally isn't worth it.

If you want a car that is rwd and can lay down rubber there are tons of cheap Mustangs around. There are also tons of cheap 240SXs as well.

If you want a drift car, why get a Honda in the first place? Honda is a roadracing company, from F1 to MotoGP, that is what they are all about.

ok i was thinking the whole engine and tranny in the back same direction it is now. two i said many times im not leaving honda, the del sol already has a spot for the drive shaft it just needs widened for the exhaust to fit there as well. and i already looked at 240s and i will still have to get money just to buy one and i would rather dump money into my fully paid off car i have now and have something unique. and [freak] FORD.

LOL everyone is hating.
I am not hating or anything but converting sol to RWD? IMO waste of time and money. You say you are poor, yet trying to throw down tons of money to convert your car to rwd. I say, all that money altogether with your sol can get a used s2000, like 2002 model or something.
Why do you want to stay HONDA anyway? is it because of the engine? If so, I would rather get like AE86 and swap F20C in it. That's more promising.

I've seen an ITR with B-series with CRV drivetrain and thus driving on rear wheels. I've seen the car drifting on tracks and stuff. Why don't you try that?
if you are gonna use f20c tranny, then you must align the engine in side way, that means you have tons of fabrications ahead of ya.

i would love to see a FR del sol, honda should have made them that way in the first place, IMO, but neways, i would say go for it, just use the f20/f22c and tranny, ur gonna have to fab up a bunch of **** yourself, find the build thread created by used (civette) he built a eg/ek( cant remember which) hatch with a vette powerplant, that should atleast give you an idea of what your up against

I'm not trying to be negative, yet I have to be honest.

There is no way you are going to get this to work.

If you somehow manage to do it, you will end up spending all kinds of time and money.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Find a rwd car with that needs an engine and put the S2000 engine in that.

How about this, buy an old VW Beetle (the original kind), and drop the S2000 engine in that. There are so many after market parts for that car. In my opinion it would be at least a million times cooler than a Del Sol any day.
