Default Rear swaybar help please?

I have a 97 ex with a 00 Si rear swaybar. I also have a GSR swaybar laying around. My question is, can i simply switch out the Si rear swaybar for the GSR one? Im doing this because i might be able to sell the Si easier then the GSR.

Once again Eran to the rescue. Thanks man

(8:55 PM 1/15/2007) turnsignalandy: I need you help again, I have a Si rear swaybar setup on my 97 ex, and im wondering if I can switch out the swaybar itself for a GSR one? thanks
(8:59 PM 1/15/2007) Eran: Yes, you can. Depending on your exhaust setup, you may have to put the top mounting plate bolt in the bottom hole, and then tap out for a new hole. That's what I had to do for my GSR bar and Tanabe exhaust.
(9:05 PM 1/15/2007) turnsignalandy: im rocking the crazy cool stock exhaust. Are the holes in the D brackets in the same place tho? Wouldnt the ones in the GSR one be a little farther apart since its a bit larger?
(9:05 PM 1/15/2007) Eran: The stock GSR d-brackets will work with the stock 99-00 si subframe brackets.
(9:06 PM 1/15/2007) Eran: I'm not sure about your exhaust. Just mock it up, and it if looks like it has to go through the exhaust, you'll have to change it.

Christ man....

We need to all pool in money, and send Eran to Automotive Jeapordy, or Automotive Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

This man will destroy all other opponents.

You can use a GSR bar in place of an Si bar, given the same exact setup. A GSR bar will bolt to the Si endlinks and the GSR d-brackets and bushings will bolt to the Si subframe brackets.

One thing I am not sure about is the exact geometry of the bar. I have a Tanabe exhaust, and the way it bends would have been in direct path of the sway bar (ie, the sway bar would have had to go into my piping.

To remedy this, I put bolted the top hole in the subframe bracket to the bottom hole in the subframe. I then tapped out two new holes at about a 15degree angle, and then bolted it down. Here's a picture:

It affects preload, but it has not caused any adverse effects.

can you explain what preload is and how it acts upon handling?

Preloading a swaybar is where there is torsion loaded onto the swaybar when installed and it applies load to the suspension.

This really isn't a problem unless there is a large enough preload, and if the preload is asymmetrical. It can cause the body to look "tilted" to one direction or the other. For a daily/drag/road/auto-x setup car, this is a bad thing, because a car will roll more one direction than the other.

Asymmetrical preload is good for oval racing because it allows for the body to be pitched to the inside of the track.

*ninja edit for typo*

cool. So did you only bolt it like that on one side, thus making it sit at an angle?

No, I did this on both sides. I was just merely explaining what preload is. My swaybar is equally preloaded.

x2.

That's why the geometry to sqaure root fraction to power of jesus christ let there be light does not fit properly.

Flip the swaybar around.

I never knew it was upside down, I put it on the only way that would fit. I know it works the way it's installed, and have learned to drive with it the way it is. Not sure about the endlink, that's a new predicament. Hasn't been like that for long.

Guess it's time for a new setup ... wish it was on my terms instead of "your swaybar is fucked" terms .... ASR brace and ST front and rears, here I come.
