Default Rear drum brakes bent spindle?

I recently took on the task of changing the rear drum brakes on my 98 civic. I was able to get the passenger side fine. The drivers side was a pain to get off including have to use pry bars because the adjuster was rusted in place. I am now putting it back together and can’t get the brand new drums on because the shoes won’t go loose enough to do so unless the top spring is so loose it falls off. Everything from the back plate forward including the wheel cylinders and hardware is brand new. I can not for the life of me get the drum on without that too spring falling out because it is so loose. What am I doing wrong the passenger side is together and working fine. Please help. Did I bend the spindle when I was prying in it?

I figured it out. The manual showed the springs in the wrong holes. I got it all working and good now.
