Default Rear brake line DIY?

Hey guys,

Rear brake line broke on Monday. Happened while driving at night, just got it towed on Thursday and inspected it/found the leak today.

So the question becomes: Is this something worth tackling?

Background: 1997 Civic HX, 205K, still pulling 40+ MPG. Car was in the midwest for ~10 years of it's life, so this is a big part of it's slow death (exhaust has been patch worked together repeatedly). The car is back in CA again.

I found some threads where folks were saying the front subframe needs to be dropped to weasel a line in/old one out. Not sure I have the time for that with current life situations.

Thanks,

mohater

You do have to drop the subframe, I've done it before and it's not that bad. Or you can cut the old line ahead of the break where it's not rusty flare it and use a union and another piece of brake like to splice it.

lol, you're in NB, I was in the mid-west. The only place it's not rusty is under the hood.

I'll probably just do it slowly over the course of a month. Thanks for the encouragement.

Take a good look at your undercarriage and tell me how bad is it rusted. Plan out if you would rather replace both rear lines, and possibly the fuel line or just that one busted rear line. Try to make your life easy.
