look for the vtec solenoid. i know the usdm 96-00 sohc vtec's don't have vtec on the valve cover. 92-95 does tho. so yea, best bet it look for vtec solenoid.

I notice you are from Australia.

The Civic VTi (EJ8) will have a D16Y8.

Look for this block stamp...

V-tec doesn't exactly boost your car's performance too much. it's really quite over-rated.

umm, are you saying the non-vtec motors are anywhere near as good as the vtec ones? The tuning on the vtec motors adds more power, regardless.

vtec fo life yo! I would strongly disagree with you. My DOHC vtec will run better with ITR head upgrade than a SOHC .

SOHC VTEC is overrated because it doesn't really give you a performance boost like a DOHC B series or the like. VTEC on SOHC runs off of intake valves only, not intake and exhaust like DOHC.

Oh, so the op just has no clue what he's talking about?

Or did he actually try popping the trunk and looking for something that indicated VTEC?

I feel bad, I never answered the OP's question.

@ OP:
Some cars have "VTEC" written on the motor's valve cover, some don't, it doesn't mean ****.

Look for the VTEC solenoid.

If you have trouble figuring out what it looks like take a picture of your engine bay or simply go to http://www.google.com and type in "Honda VTEC solenoid" and you'll get some pictures of it under the"images" tab. The first pic is a great one, it's located on the left side of the head when looking at the engine.
