Really weird problem...
Okay, to give you some history...'94 Civic DX with a '94 GS-R swap running a P28 ecu. I bought the swap from a guy who wrecked his Civic coupe...he had the swap done by a Dodge dealership and the ecu "chipped" by a friend for no rev limiter.
Now, if the ecu was done anything like the swap he had, it's half-assed.
So, it leads me to my current problem.
I'm runnng a 2.25" cat-back exhaust with a silencer for everyday driving. I was at the track this past weekend and my friend with an '04 Si asked if I was going to take my silencer out, I said no, but today I experimented a bit.
I ran the car with the silencer in...it revved all the way to 8K no problems and VTEC engaged ~5.5-6K.
I take the silencer out and VTEC engages ~5K. Now, this is where I encounter the problem...before I was able to rev to 8K, no problem. But on this run the tach reads 6.5K and it just...stops pulling, but keeps revving, almost like you push the clutch in and kept giving it the gas.
It did this while I was at the track, so I just shifted at 6.5K and didn't think much of it because I figured the silencer had something to do with it, but even with the silencer it will rev to 8K.
I went ahead and bought a new chipped ecu from phearable.net (Honda-Tech sponsor), so I'm hoping that the heat outside (I live in southeast texas...100+ degree weather) has finally made it start acting weird. If the new ecu doesn't solve the problem then I'm going to check the timing and see if that's out of whack.
Any ideas?
MOD LIST:
I/H/E
Fidanza flywheel
Exedy Stage 1 clutch
SRP 9.5:1 pistons (motor built for boost)
Eagle rods
ARP head studs

I don't think that it's the clutch. I put the motor in (with all said upgrades) this past November, and I've only raced the car a total of 10 times...launching between 3-5K, but other than that, I drive it nice and easy.

I'll put it like this...with the silencer in it get's "loud" between 5.5-6K, but with the silencer out it's in the 5K range.
It's got plenty of oil, I check it every few days because forged pistons burn oil for whatever reason.
