I got a 95 si with a d16z6 motor. no mods except for short ram intake, dc headers and some unknown exhaust. car has roughly 140xxx miles.

I cleaned the iacv adjusted the fitv, cleaned the thorttle body. i've read around HT and have read the idle problem but have not found a solution. my car once it warms up idles at like 200-300. i adjusted the screw on the TB but it doesnt increase. So my question is what is wrong with my car. Because of the low idle my steering wheel shakes and alot of things in the car do. any help would really be appreciated. and the car has no CEL's.

mine just had this problem. it was my primary O2 sensor, but that threw a CEL

i cant remember where it was but i read if your iavc is bad then your idle screw will have no effect

did u unplug the electrical connector to the IAC and leave it unpluged b4 u adjusted the screw....

no i did not unplug it. are you suppose to? how do you know if your rpm is going up or down if u unplug it? and im assuming clockwise is to lower rpm and counterclockwise is to raise rpm.

yea i've been riding on it for like a month. but now its gettin annoying. so i just wanna fix it. anymore help would be really useful.

you have to unplug the IAC b4 adjusting throttle hook up a tach, or multimeter set at RPM to a spark plug wire with an inductive clamp to watch rpm then use flat head on the screw on the throttle body and turn clockwise to lower i believe ... dont quote me but i think idle w/o IAC pluged in should be 500ish and with pluged in should be 670ish but i would look up specs on that first... ill post again if i find the spec b4 u do I had the same prob. and this is what fixed it for me after changing PCV

yea i just changed pcv and the problem occured. how do i hook up a tach to the plug or anything else that woudl read rpm and where would i get it.

Eh, u don't need the tach, ur stock one is fine.

If it's just LOW and not necessarily hunting or shaking just tighten the throttle cable a bit - the idle set screw doesn't work worth of **** 9 times out of 10.

Though yes, you're supposed to d/c the IACV before turning the screw, and yes, CCW allows more in and raises it while CW closes it off and lowers it.

i'll try adjusting it tommrow. and see what happens. if the screw wont help i'll go with your idea with tightening the throttle cable a little.

is it possible to do it without hooking up a multimeter, and just doing it over and over until you feel like you got the right idle?

Yeah but mine still wins EVERY show it goes to.
Judges dont care how it runs.
And prolly looks alot better thatn yours.

you can adjust the idle w/o the multimeter i just dont have a tach in my car so i used the multimeter to view my RPM's u r safer being able to see the RPM's but i guess it could be done without it.... and im not saying that this alwayz works but it is what it took to smooth out my idle when i had the same exact problem you did my car would warm up then idle real low and rise then drop and rise only when i was at an idle. Find out what you r idleing at b/c mine was at almost 1200 with the IAC pluged in dropped the RPM's down to around 500 shut car off with the IAC unplugged and pulled the 7.5 amp back up fuse under the hood to reset memory. Plugged the IAC back in, fuse back in started car and idle at 690 -700 pretty good and my idle str8ened out thats just my experience hopefully this helps u out some. let me know.

well i tried it today, and now my car warms up and only idles at like 100. iono wth is wrong.

heres wut i did. i let the car warm up. and idle was as low as usual. around 200. and then i unpluged the iac connector, which almost made my engine turn off. then i adjusted the screw which didnt change the idle at all. then i plugged back in the iac connector and the idle went to 600. i pulled the fuse out and waited for 20 seconds and put it back in. turned off the car. and turned it back on. and the idle ended up to be 100. did i do something wrong. i have a honda manual from haynes and followed the instrutions. so whats wrong?

I have yet to see a modded eg that is not beat to ****
