Default Really dumb question but it's starting to bother me...

I have a 94 civic ex coupe. Has anybody with this same car tried to put red LED lights in the tail brake lights. People told me to use 1157 cause that would work with my 2057 design. When I put the bulb in, I can light up if you don't twist-lock it into the socket and you have to like move it around to make it even work that way, buy when you twist-lock it in, it dosn't work at all. I tried the right and left side just to make sure my sockets weren't damaged but they both do the same thing. The reason I need LED red tail lights, (If you even care), is because I have the all white tail lenses and red bulbs never glow red, they glow orange and pink n stuff. So the LEDs are perfect if I can figure out how to make em work in my car.

Anybody run into the same problems?

The only thing I can think of is try to buy another tail light socket made for an 1157 bulb and soder it into the tail wire cluster and cut the stock socket off. I know this is a really dumb question, buy I'm hella frustrated why such a simple light bulb won't work in my car
