Realistically, if you take care of your car, how many miles can you get...

Re: Realistically, if you take care of your car, how many miles can you get...
My 93 Civic lasted 200k+ until it got stolen. My 99 Si has 130k miles and still going. The trick is to replace parts as soon as they go bad. Do the repair as soon as you notice it and try to use OEM parts where possible. It also seems that the less you mess with a car with aftermarket ****, the more they last.

to be honest i would be more worried about the low mileage at the age then high mileage !!!!!!!!!!! i have owned several 300k PLUS hondas ....... these cars are well built and run forever as long as you maintain them

Original owner '95 Civic Coupe DX. 265,000. Standard maintenance. 54 miles daily round trip to work. VSS or speedo is acting intermittent, so mileage may be higher.
HG went out at 260.000, installed used (130 K mile) D15B7. Had the usual Honda rear cancer repaired, so I will keep it.

I've had multiple civics with over 200k miles, easy. My current 94 ex with original power steering, ac, etc. has 220k+ miles and I've made several trips to Florida and back from the northern part of Illinois. I would trust this car anywhere! I also had a DA with 240k miles that was turbo charged and I still see it driving around today from when I sold it over a year ago.

285K on mine before I pulled the original D15B7 for a GSR swap. That motor has found a new home in a '92 sedan. It had 180 compression all the way around and didn't burn or leak a drop of oil. My car now has about 315k on it and the chassis is fine.

one of the service writers here at our local honda dealership had a 90 civic hatch come in and video taped it rolling over to 1,000,000 miles. The owner of the car was a high mileage courier.

did you miss the 940 one on the page before? if it made 940k i imagine the extra 60 isn't pushing its luck.

Re: Realistically, if you take care of your car, how many miles can you get...
I've driven a ton of high mileage cars in my life and I can tell you that Honda's in general, if taken care of, will last forever.
My previous cars were: EG Civic EX @ 186k, Accord LX @ 167k, Legend LS @ 326k, EK Civic Hatch DX @ 126k and my current DD (Del Sol Si) is at 250k...all were running fine (except the Acura Legend which blew the headgaskets at 326,000 miles).
Honda (and some older toyotas) are the only cars that I would even consider picking up at any mileage, as long as it was taken care of.

Re: Realistically, if you take care of your car, how many miles can you get...
before it craps out? I have a 1998 Honda Civic EX, SOHC, with 81K miles on it. Have taken really good care of it, and was just curious at what point do they give up the ghost? Basically, am I looking at a time issue or miles issue when it comes to Honda's??? Thanks!
Mine got itself a hole in the exhaust manifold so that's getting replaced too.
Just had to replace the ICM as I was having the problem of the car quitting while driving. That fixed the problem.
lol even though it's been said in virtually every other response here... if you take care of it then it will take care of you. I'm only 26 but I plan to own this car til I die!!!

93 civic SI, original D16z6, bone stock 428,000...overhaul at 420k (new rings, bearings, valve seals, hg, etc) owned since less than 100k, haven't done anything other than tune ups, tbelts, and brakes...I've spent MAYBE 700$ on this car in the last 9 years as far as maintenance goes...and I beat the sh*t out of this poor thing, I've used it to tow dodge ram 3500's (the looks from ppl on the side of the road are awesome, clutch slipped like hell in 3rd tho) (still has the OEM honda pressure plate, I've only replaced the friction disk once)
just do your oil changes, tune ups and timing belts like your supposed to and it'll run forever, that and I still put 93 octane in the car whenever I can, I dont think the car has seen anything less than 91 since I've owned it, and I think that helps
anything will run forever if you take care of it though, hell I've got a 2002 Dodge Caravan with 493,000 on the original motor and original transmission, never even had the valve covers off

My friends 95 Accord ex is sitting at 425,000 km right now. Can still go 190 km/h and doesn't burn oil.

Didn't know that...I'll double check...this was when I was 13 and paid no attention to cars, much less hondas. It did fuel my love for hondas remembering his 1 million mile civic when I became interested in cars. I'll check and see if I can find the polaroid of it.

96 Ex Coupe, got the car at 120k 4 years later had 200k, about that time (last june) input shaft bearing was making alot of noise, and the engine was burning a qt every 500 miles, I took good care, but at the sametime beat on it daily, for about 2k threw a b18c1 in out of a 01 gsr. Plan on keeping the car forever, with one kid and another on the way, its time to get a new Si sedan, so I can really do what i want to the coupe!

The Z6, A6, A1, basically anything prior to the 1996 D series engines were designed better.

Timing belt changes are critical, and oil regular maintenance.
Bearings aren't really a wear item, the bearings float on a coat of oil. The rings are a wear item though, as well as the valve stem seals.

A decade late but gotta add my stats
1996 Civic Ex 5speed
343,000mi and counting
2 rack and pinions
countless CV joints and tie rods
2 power steering pumps
2 starters
Never cared about maintaining it till I realized how tough she was...now I'm curious to see how many more miles she goes. I'm treating her right now but have 13yrs of maintenance to catch up on
