Use 18awg shieilded wire. I've only rewired obd1 knock sensors, which are one wire with a ground.

Seeing that you have a two wire indicates you might have an obd2 harness. Regardless ground the shielding wire (solid) to the chassis or engine. I think that the extra wire you have is for a ground. I could be wrong though. Make sure it is shielded cable though.

Typically, the KS only has one wire that actually connects to the sensor. It's usually red/blue. You may have a plug from a different sensor; just make sure you hook the wire that goes to the pin on the sensor to the wire that feeds the ECU.

When i wired in my knock sensor i just used a two Pin connector, One red. One black.

I ran the red one to the pin on the ECU and grounded the black wire. People even say you dont need a ground cause the sensor grounds itself on the block.

I do know you dont need a sheilded wire. I never used one. And never threw a check engine light.

Here is a pin out for 96-98 knock sensor.

And 99-00. Idk what car you have.
