Re-Manufactured or new a/c compressor?
1996 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan.
I'm looking for opinions on re-manufactured vs new a/c compressor and where to buy? I don't appear to be leaking freon and the fan, pulley, clutch & coil appear to be working but only hot air blows into car. I called my local Honda dealer and he gave me 2 options:
Re-manufactured
$574.52 w/clutch & coil
part# 38800-P2R-A01RM
plus chore $50
plus sales tax $40.59
Total $665.11
New (Sanden)
$666.55
plus clutch $230
plus coil $108
plus chore $50
plus sales tax $68.55
Total $1,073.10
I checked the only salvage yard locally and nothing in stock...
What would you do?
Thanks!

Re: Re-Manufactured or new a/c compressor?
Nothing you posted specifically indicates compressor failure. Do some basic A/C diagnostic testing with an R134a manifold gauge to pinpoint the issue. For example, there could be a small leak that emptied the system of refrigerant over time.
When you turn on the A/C, does the clutch engage and the clutch armature plate spin with the compressor pulley?

Thanks!
My apologies for not being clear but I'm not looking for diagnostics...Been there done that...With your help actually...Here: https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...blows-3213870/ And thanks for that, btw!
FWIW...To answer your question, yes when I turn on the A/C, the clutch engages and the clutch armature plate spins with the compressor pulley. That said, unless I'm missing something, I'm looking for opinions on re-manufactured vs new a/c compressor...And perhaps where to buy?

Again, I don't see any diagnostic information that rigorously indicates a bad compressor. If this is not a tech thread, then it doesn't belong here. Based on your first post, you may want to post in the Value sticky at the top.

What is a "Value sticky" and "at the top" of what?
Because I don't know or see what you mean.
