Re: rattle under engine
Given the weather, and the age of our cars, it could be just about anything. If it's happening regardless of gear, it's probably one of your heat shields. A blown or almost blown motor or torque mount could also be exacerbating the problem.

Re: rattle under engine
a blown or almost blown motor mount or torque mount would still let the car "seem to drive like it's perfect". Just tossing it out there as something else for you to check.

Re: rattle under engine
Have a friend rev the engine in neutral while you look at it and check for excessive lateral movement.

Re: rattle under engine
If you still have stock cat, check heat shield w/o engine on by shaking it or lightly tapping it w/hammer handle not head. Little pebbles love to get trapped in there.
Hopefully its not a spring/bushing in the clutch that's rattling loose. Another way to check mounts is w/eng off, car in n, e brake on, eng cold. Grab on to front and back of valve cover and push/pull pretty hard. Engine should not move front to back any more than 1/4 inch. If so your rear mount is shot. Side to side shouldn't move @ all. |
