Default Random Check engine light

So i get a CEL after driving for a while, like 30 min or so. but if i turn the car off then back on the CEL is gone for about 20-30 min, occasionally 10 min.

i pulled a code using a paper clip and i got code 1.

so i then changed out my o2 sensor. reset my ecu drove for a while. and BAM! the CEL is back. any ideas?

Are the O2 wires cut and spliced or stock?

car is a 92 vx. with a d15b7. the engine harness is a ls harness.

now this could be a big issue. the o2 sensor is on the cat. should i plug the hole for the cat and run the plug to the header?

The O2 sensor definitely belongs in the header before the cat.

How many wires does your O2 sensor have? What ECU?

Start by installing the sensor before the cat.
