Ran into problem when installing springs.....Need help
While installing springs today, I took the long way (ignorantly) and removed the side of the lower control arm before I figured out it was unecessary. This caused my axel to come out of the joint. Now I cannot get it back in. I pulled the boot back to see if could figure it out. There are 3 bearings that have to line up perfect in the slots to slide back in but after trying for hours in the freezing cold, I gave up. Is there a trick or certain tool I need to put the axel back in the joint? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

you need the axle to be exactly straight, or it will never slide in. having a friend hold the suspension up helps.

There were 3 of us and we still couldn't get it to line up correctly. There has to be trick or something.

The trick is to stop sucking and start doing it right. It should simply slide/click into place when you line it up and shove. Under no circumstances should you hit the axle with a hammer or even a rubber mallet, as you could tear up the splines of the axle or the intermediate shaft.
It's easier than it seems. Keep at it.

haha. ok thanks.
but seriously I was under the car lining up the bearings with the slots, but when we try to push the axel in, it seems like they just move and once one moves, it's all downhill and everything is off line.

take out the halfshaft, get yourself filthy in CV grease, and fit it back together.
its a filthy miserable job, but other than playing around with the greasy parts, its not very hard.
dont tighten down the cv boot until you have the length right on the halfshaft, or it could prematurely wear out.
