Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
first off, should this be in audio, alarms etc forum?
second, all i did was change oil, then let the car run for a few minutes.. i changed the mode from aux to tune, subs popped a bit and my radio shut off.. then i noticed my amps were still lit off even tho my keys weren't in the ignition.. only when to get my amps off is to unplug my radio from the harness.. checked fuses already

Somehow, I think your amps are connected to your constant and the amp was pulling power when you turned the car on and bottomed out your head unit. You'll probably do better in the audio thread bro, that's all I got.

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
When the head unit turned off like that, it didnt send a signal to the amp, telling it to turn off.
The constant (your power wire +12v) was still connected to the amp. I would unplug the constant immediatly, and take it to a car audio shop, and get them to diagnose the problem further.

i'll give it a shot, what i'll do is disconnect any wires that have to do with power, and reconnect it. see if it helps anything

Just don't blow any fuses on the amps. I've seen it happen one time where the amp wasn't fried after.
Also, did you check the fuse on the head unit? There should be a small fuse, like a ten or something. Check to see if that's blown.

Check all the connections on the amps, make sure there are no little hairs for the power wire getting over to the remote wire.
Also if the fuse on the deck was blown the deck wouldnt turn on, which would cause the amps to be shut off. They are getting power for somewhere and it doesnt sound like the deck is doing it.

it's real late, so i'll mess with it more tomorrow, but i went out and took the neg. batt cable off for a bit, put it back in and still having the same problem- when my hu is plugged in, my amps are on.. i checked the fuse in the hu, it's a ten and it's fine, i looked to see if little hairs of power wire were getting to remote, but i just checked quickly, didn't notice anything though.. this was so random, it just happened out of no where..

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
^ you are sure that the remote to your amp is not connected to the constant right? The radio won't work without a constant, even with the car on. I mean, this sounds like a small idiotic thing, but hey, the last owner of my car re wired my VSS wrong, he put yellow to blue. How the F*ck do you get those colors confused?

not quite sure how to diagnose this, but when i remove my amp to batt wire, it turns off and when i remove my remote it turns off

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
You have to have that remote on your constant, there's no other way that would happen, which would explain your radio not turning on (it needs the constant even when on). And the pulling both power wire thing, it's probably just when your amp sees a power source pulled, it shuts down.

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
Sometimes they are even labled for you, switch 12, +12, you get the idea.
this most likely will be on the decks harness, just follow to the cars harness.
The only time this has ever happended to me, is there was a hair touch on the amps side, but my deck turned on still.
remove the fuse again and test with a multi metter, this still wont keep the amp on though.

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
no wires are touching, i disconnected the 12v battery wire from the hu and now my amps are off and only turn on when my key is turned, but it shouldnt be like that.. my hu still isnt turning on

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
^. No, that's how you want your amps. If your amps are wired to the hu they will be off unless the key is put into a power situation. It will run from constant unless the car is on, that's the wire you pulled, so they only stay on when the red cord gives them power. Your HU needs the constant all the time, so it won't be turning on anyways. You got something effed up with your constant

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
Unhook everything and start from scratch......
your amps should only turn on when the hu is on, they should never stay on, this is the purpose of the remote wire, when the hu is turned on, it sends a single and the amp is powerd on.

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
ye, gunna unhook everything and start again tonight, hope it helps.. got a new radio in the mail too, hope it came with a new harness.. the constant to the hu is mainly to keep the clock running, presets and all that **** in the memory. it's always on in theory, but only with a very little amount of power (the constant).. when the key is turned, the +12v ign wire takes charge and uses more power to run the hu

Re: Radio won't turn on, amps won't turn off
The constant isnt just for that, the power to run the hu is pulled threw that wire.
The switch is basicly the same as a the amp remote wire, tells it when to turn on and off, without that the hu will stay on the entire time, whether key is on or off.
But yes, its there for pre sets, etc.
