rack n pinion help making noise
Hi, i bought a car and it had some front end damage. i got everythign fixed and it is still on jack stands, when i turn my wheels with my hands, i hear some what of a clicking sound. sounds like its coming from my rack n pinion. has anyone had this problem before? its a ps rack and the fluid is low maybe gone. could this be the problem? or do i need a new one? thanks and any help will be much appreciated

Uhhhhh........sounds like a great place to start!
Put some fluid it in and see if the noise goes away. See if it's leaking. You may poke a SMALL hole in the bottom of the bellows to see if there is fluid in there. If there is fluid in there then there's your leak. Also, check the pump, lines, etc.
I've also heard balljoints make clicking sounds.

Re: rack n pinion help making noise (RonJ@HT)
lets see, fluid is low to none, but uhhhhhhhhh i have had many MANY cars with no fluid in there AT ALL for many months without any problems or any noise coming from it. i always take out my ps and cut off the lines and cap it, and never had a problem. which is why i dont believe it is that, the car is on jack stands with no motor now, so i know its coming from the rack, just dont know if its bad or if somethign else could cause it to make the sound. thanks for the input so far tho
