Quiet Exhaust???
I just put on a original R*SR exhaust on my car and it is quiet as I believe STOCK?!?! I was hoping for the classic import exhaust sound but it is soft and smooth. I had a really bad muffler that was extremely rusted out and it was loud. Is this good or bad the quiet exhaust? How much will it get louder when I gut the cat and put on a DC sports header?

quiet is better...... why would you want people staring at you as you drive by?? loud exhaust = thief magnent.... unless your going for an all out drag car. then i guess it wouldnt matter too much

yea, buddies right, quiet is better. no one like to hear a car go by with a loud *** exhaust that sounds like sh*t. i have the apexi N1 and its pretty quiet and has a very nice low tone. the car shouldnt get to much louder with the header. but if your gonna gut the cat im not really sure.

Re: Quiet Exhaust??? (isotopesope)
I had a Apex N1 on my first hatch, well i was 18 at the time and drove like a manic with a B18C5 and a test pipe... AEM CAI help make the VTEC bark loud and proud... I always drive by Chinatown cuz i worked at Walgreens at the time, ppl down there never look for cars when they cross the street, that is until i came by i floor it... People reported they heard me coming down 2blocks away...
Thats the only thing i miss, people moving out of my damn way!!! But since then, i drive in a orderly manner around traffic...
Its really an opinion, i like my Mugen Twin Loop that i have now on my current hatch, all stock but the muffler... Nice and deep tone effect...

Re: Quiet Exhaust??? (bad93ex)
I had a Tanabe on my 94 and it was louder then I ever wanted it to be. I would recommend keeping a quiet exhaust as long as it has a good flow. Having people hear you comming from miles away isn't as cool as you think it is. (well unless you want that)

I am starting to like it just becuase of the stealth abilities. It does flow very well. So I will keep it. I have been told that it will get louder with time it just has to break in. I dont believe them.

Quit is not necessarily a bad thing. Here's the thing you need to ask yourself. Why did you buy an exhaust in the first place? If it was for looks, then you've done that. If it was for sound, then maybe you should think about changing it. There is a considerable demand for the original RSR exhaust so I think you could sell it without much problems. If you did it for performance, then you made a mistake to start with. Yea, there might be a marginal performance upgrade, but nothing worth the $500 or so it costs.
A header will add a little volume. On the cat, I really woudn't gut it. Spend the money on a high-flow cat. I really don't think any small gain you might get is worth the added polution of running a test-pipe. Not on the street.
If you wanted to move up in sound, the Apexi WS is a moderately quite exhaust. Things like the Racing Medalion, or N1 are gonna be really loud and could get tiresome after a while. If you REALLY want to draw attention, you can buy my Buddy Club SpecII. I took it off because I really couldn't deal with the noise. I ran at a track event and the general concensus was that I had the loudest car in the paddock. This was including the honda-challenge, american iron, 944cup, etc. race cars.

don't gut your cat. just buy a highflow cat or contribute to global warming and get a test pipe at least...

Re: Quiet Exhaust??? (bad93ex)
Where did you get your original RS*R exhaust system? I have an old catalog I got from Racing Beat back in '97, I've always wanted this exhaust system because of its stock looks and mellow sound, but being a poor college student starting out back in the day it just wasn't practical.
Right now I have a full catback Tanabe Racing Medallion on my car with test pipe and the silencer in. I've had this system for 2 years now and I'm getting real tired of the loudness of this system, and I do mean loud! I guess as you get older you can only tolerate so much noise and it just doesn't mean anything to me anymore to attract attention, especially to kid ricers out there who still feel like they need to prove something. Besides, I'd rather hear the sound my engine makes especially hitting VTEC.
Anyone know where you can still get the original RS*R system? Like I said, I've seen it marketed in '97 back in the day so who knows if they still sell them? If not I might go ES muffler but I'd rather get a catback RS*R. Or how would a ES muffler sound with Tanabe piping?
