Default Quick timing question- b16

When setting the crank to TDC, do you go by the white mark on the crank pulley, or the little line on the crank gear (only see when pulleys removed). I thought these marks were in the same spot but they are not? I do not have the timing belt cover so i am using the mark on the oil pump-

Stupid question i know but i have confused myself somehow and want to double check my assumption before completing my re-assembly.

It depends on what guide you are using.

When using the crank gear, line the arrow on the crank gear with the marking on the oil pump. The key way slot should be pointing straight up also at TDC.

When using the crank pulley, you must have the lower timing belt cover one. You will line up the white mark on the crank pulley with the timing indicator of the lower timing belt cover.
