Quick SOHC Coupes?
Where are all the quick coupes at? Im about to build the d16y8 for all-motor duty in my daily driven 97 EX and was wondering what everyone else is running and how they like it? Im going with a full Zex valvetrain (stock valves) and Zex stage 2 cam with some decent machining done to the head. Anyone know some numbers that I could expect? Also goin with a comptech header and thermal cat back with a carsound cat. Im excited for this project to get under way....hit me with your set-ups!

Re: Quick SOHC Coupes? (BlackNoise)
I HAD THE STAGE 2 CAM IN MY 99 EX AND I/H/E AND VTEC CONTROLLER 15.4 DON'T REMEMBER THE MPH , but unfrotunetly i didn't upgrade the valve train so i blew it up. since you are also doing head work i think you should hit high 14's with a good launch. the stage 3 is even crazier

Re: Quick SOHC Coupes? (JSPECEX)
Zex has a stage 3? I have only seen the stage 2. **** I'll get the stage 3 if there is one. I wanna get whatever the new valvetrain can handle.
Im getting the head work done at a local shop here in NorCal - Selby's Machine shop. Port n polish the head w/ port matched IM, full radius intake and 3 angle exhaust valve job, milled .020 and hot tanked.

-SRR final drive (cuz even a sohc vtec is about no better then a integra LS tranny gear wise(ls tranny, all motor=sucks)
-d16a1/zc p29/pm7 pistons: high compression, over 12:1 in a d16y8.
-no mill on the head: might have valve piston contact
-y8 headgasket
-port/ polished head
-stiff valve springs
-stage 3 crower or exospeed sohc vtec cam
-skunk2 sohc manifold
-bisimoto header
-hondata s100/s200 ecu system
-gutted
-slicks
-tuned.

Re: Quick SOHC Coupes? (Rydaddy)
I've got a y8 with AEM Cold Air, APEXi GT Spec Header and GReddy EVO Cat back and my car still isn't really that fast...but that's cuz I have compression problems....I also have a d16z6 intake manifold and head for sale...ready for some head work if you need it....it's still in great shape.....

I have heard good things about the Zex cam for the d16..Im pretty much sold on the setup. I have to run on shitty Cali 91 octane so SUPER high compression is out of the question for me. Just lookin to give some DOHC's a scare...maybe even a spankin

Re: Quick SOHC Coupes? (Rydaddy)
i wouldnt get the zex cam if you are serious about being FAST FAST in a sohc coupe NA/all motor. get something bigger. and compression is your friend.
