Default Quick question - license plate screws on EG

REally dumb question - does anyone know the diameter and thread pitch of the license plate screws on an EG Hatch? Did these holes get pre-tapped from the factory, or did the individual dealers tap them?

My VX hatch came from out of state with no plates, and no screws either. I tried an M6x1.0 screw and it would go in maybe 2 turns, no more. M5 was too small, went right through.

Or should I try imperial? 10-32? 1/4-28? I can't imagine it not being metric for a Japanese car. Made in Canada I know, but even they use metric, I think.

I don't want to go to Home Depot and try 20 different screws if I could help it.

Thanks in advance

M6-1.0 x 16mm (longer is ok)

if a 6x1.0 doesn't go in it may have been retaped, screwed up, filled, rusty, etc.
a tap will take care of it.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah it looks like the threads might be rusty then, which is why the screws went in a couple turns and then stopped.

I just ended up getting some shorter M6-1.0 screws (10mm). There's still a 5mm gap or so between the plate and the head of the screws, but I can live with that as long as the plate doesn't fall off.

Thanks again everyone.
